September 2008Hey there :) I am very interested in joining the Sept. 900 hour crew this fall...but I am full of questions! I live out in Florida - should I bring my car? would it be helpful to have it out there to travel to and from sites? Hmmm...I know crew members receive a biweekly pay - is that to help with housing and food? Also, is it necessary to bring anything from home, like camping gear? One last question - promise - do crew members receive basic health insurance? Thank you so much for your help! Have a good night :) Nora Posted by LittleOui at 20:31:43 on 31 July 2007.

Hey, Nora-
It is helpful to have a car, but not to get to work sites--we provide your transportation while you're in the field. Flag is bikeable, though. You will also need to bring your camping gear--once you've been accepted you'll receive a gear list. Yeah, your stipend is for your own living expenses. In terms of health insurance: we offer a plan through AmeriCorps that is relatively affordable, and is provided to 1700-hour members, optional for everyone else. But remember that you are covered by our workers' compensation when you're in the field. Hope that helps!
