Six questionsHey, I'm in the September 900 crew, and I've got some questions. 1. We need two forms of ID. The letter refers to the list of acceptable documents, but all the stuff on the "americorps eligibility documentation verification" sheet is things that you'd only have one of. Besides my birth certificate, what do I need to prove who I am? 2. Included in the paperwork were both of the applications that I applied with. Do I need to fill these out a second time? 3. The equipment list says we need a daypack in addition to our large pack. Will a regular school backpack work for this? 4. What sort of cooking gear to people usually bring? 5. Does everyone need their own tent? 6. The list says we should bring a firestarter other than matches. Can this just be a lighter? Thanks -Ike Posted by Underwater at 13:10:38 on 2 August 2007.

Ike,
1. You need to bring a certified copy of your birth certificate. You will also need to bring a passport or driver's license.
2. No, not if you've already submitted them.
3. Sure. You need to be able to carry a gallon of water, your food for the day, rain gear, and anything else you'll need during the work day.
4. Depends on what you want to eat. Old stuff from Goodwill, etc., works relatively well, but watch out for used Teflon stuff--it might flake off in your food. Backpacking stuff from companies like MSR works better and is more packable. Usually I carry a couple of nesting sauce pans, a nesting frying pan, pot lifter, and a bevy of cooking utensils like folding ladle, sauce spoon, and pasta strainer.
5. Yep. You can share tents, but it's limited by policy--no coed sharing or sharing between couples involved romantically.
6. Sure.
No problem.
