Northern Arizona Conservation Corps
The Northern Arizona Conservation Corps (NACC) is a conservation corps in the tradition of the Civilian Conservation Corps and a career development program for young adults, aged 18-25, interested in conservation and land management.
We partner with local, regional, state, and federal land management agencies such as the National Park Service, US Forest Service, and Arizona Game & Fish, among many others, in order to implement critical environmental conservation initiatives throughout Arizona.
Since 1997, CREC has been providing service and conservation work throughout Arizona. Based out of Flagstaff, crews travel and spike camp throughout the region to complete many different types of projects. We partner on short- and long-term projects and help develop large-scale, ongoing projects.
Projects may include; trail construction and maintenance, forest restoration for wildfire fuels reduction and forest health, construction and maintenance of fences, restoring watersheds and wildlife habitat, eradicating exotic plant species, and building and maintaining recreational infrastructure. Crews can also be trained for special projects to meet the needs of our partners.
Youth Conservation Corps
CREC's Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a program designed to introduce Corpsmembers aged 15 to 18 to community service and resource conservation through hands-on project work with a variety of land-management and community partners.
YCC crews work on trails, fire mitigation, and fire restoration, as well as on several projects within their communities. CREC operates five crews each year, in Flagstaff, Williams, Sedona, Fredonia and the Petrified Forest National Park.
YCC is a seven-week summer program. This unique program allows them to give back to the community and environment that they live in while offering them an opportunity to participate in a career field they may wish to pursue.
Every summer starts with a week-long orientation camp experience that encompasses field training, education from experienced professionals from several land management and educational professions, and certifications in CPR and First Aid.
